The bitter cold of homelessness
The bitter cold of homelessness November.... For the homeless, the falling leaves gives way to coming of fall, and winter. The season is usually a time to get together with family, friends, whoever else you can to hang out with. For some, its just trying to find somewhere to go to stay warm and survive. It hits real close to home for me because for a while, that was me too. While some were going overboard with turkey, cranberry sauce, and someone's creamed onions, or super dry stuffing, I was wondering where could I go that would be out of the way, but not totally excluded if something would happen. Those without a home would hope to find a shelter to go to, or have no choice but to brave the weather on their own and sleep outside. I could remember the fear on some faces as they were turned away because the shelter was at maximum occupancy. The photo is of someone I would see off and on sleeping downtown. I took it without waking her up, and put a $10 next to her. Couple nights after the pic, I didn't see her around the usual places anymore. I hoped she found a place warm to go. I hoped she survived the winter. With me being a Midwest native, I'm use to the cold. But im not sleeping in it. Not anymore that is. I considered myself one of the lucky ones. I would walk all night like a zombie to keep the blood flowing so not to get frostbite. Walking without direction. 11pm. 2am 4am 630am. I remember thinking maybe I can find somewhere warm in the sun, or a place in the day time. If im lucky. When my situation changed, I vowed to do whatever I needed to do to prevent this from happening again. This time of year always has me thinking of those less fortunate. I hope something positive comes for them. I hope they make it to another day. One more day closer to the spring, and summer. ~Linc was here.~ |

I so wish a solution would be found. So much wasted money around. And it is from both sides of the aisle. Shame on all of them.

we have them here as well and the about-to-be-ex-governor vetoed the need for more funding and in fact, cut theirs. I share what I have food wise with the so at least they are getting an hot meal. Here, however, many of them are not looking for a home and I finding that equally disturbing (Virtual Symposium Group) use Virtual Symposium Group
