The (Rear) End is in Sight!!

If the doctor told me I had six minutes to live, I'd type a little faster.
-Isaac Asimov

Hallelujah! Surgery, tomorrow morning at 9am. And outpatient surgery at that! No hospital stay, no long time off work to mend.

I visited the surgeon this morning and after some questioning, some painful poking and uncomfortable prodding, he says I have a rectal abscess. Apparently a lot of Crohn's sufferers get them. It will need to be opened up, cleaned out and a drain installed. He will know more about the severity of it once he puts on his miner's helmet and goes into my batcave. But he feels I should feel a lot better in a few days. I have to admit, I almost cried when he said he would have me feeling better in a few days.

My first surgery back in 1990 involved a week in the hospital, a nasal-gastric tube that made my throat raw, tons of sutures that abscessed and worked their way out of my stomach in the weeks after the surgery, and six weeks of having to take it easy.

This does not fix the stricture in my colon but since that isn't the spot that is bothering me, they don't want to mess with that right now.

My only question is, if so many Crohn's patients get these things, why has it taken months of suffering, several tests, and lots of meds for them to finally decide this is what it is? It seems like such a simple fix. Why keep me suffering for that long?

So, where else other than Local Adult Companion would a guy, such as myself, expose for the world the problems he has had with his ass? So, I hopefully will be talking to you again in a couple days and feeling much better and much happier.

See you next time, same Batchannel.

So far the news is already good. Even though sore, I can already tell a difference. Hopefully in a few days I'll be a lot better.

All the best wishes for your op.
A friend of mine doesn't have Chron's, but did have an abscess in the same place as yours. She had the op, and now she has to make sure she eats enough fiber every day, and is doing ok.

I'm glad hers cleared up. Fiber and pottying have never been a problem.

?Wonder why that wasn't seen with the colonoscopy? I guess they were concentrating more on the colon... hmmmmmmmmmm

Anyway, YAY!!! I'm so glad you're seeing some light at the end of a painful tunnel. My thoughts are with you this morning, dearest... I hope the next blog is a happy, "I feel like a new man" type blog... hugs to you!

I wonder the same thing. He seems to have dropped the ball on this one. Especially since the colo/rectal surgeon picked up on it so quickly. It all went well. One abscess and three fistulas fixed. Don't tell anyone but I'm having to wear a panty liner. LOL

Well, that is some GOOD news! I'm so glad that it is something they can take care of so quickly, and you'll be feeling better soon.

After the problems I have had with my dad & doctors, I believe that they really enjoy watching people suffer.
I do hope that the op will help & make you feel a whole lot better afterwards.
Do let us know how it went.

It went well. There was a little more to fix than they thought but they seemed happy. So hopefully I will be too.
