Don't Be This Guy

Today has been a rather unusual day. On a whim I decided to enter a virtual 10k this morning. The race was for a good cause benefitting the American Heart Association.

After running my 6.2 miles and doing yoga during my lunch break, I was on the way to my office when I received a text message from a number I did not recognize. The person seemed very comfortable texting me, "hey beautiful, it's been awhile but I'm in town and I'd like to take you out."

Curious, I replied, "Sorry? Who is this" to which the responder sent me several photos of himself some risque and some not. It clicked. I had exchanged a few emails with the guy over a year ago and a few texts. Then he completely dropped off the planet. Somehow he still had my number.

I had never met the guy but his demeanor to me indicated that to him we had been best friends. Can you say RED FLAG? I certainly had no interest meeting a guy who lives a good four hours (according to his profile)

So, I called him out. "What possessed you to text me out of the blue?" to which he responded, "Well I tried reconciling with my ex but things didn't work out.." Um, okay, like being on the rebound is going to make me excited to go out with you? I thought Another RED FLAG.

So, I ended up lying to get him to leave me alone. "I'm seeing someone." He would not take no for an answer. His reply? "Well bring him along, we can all go out! Maybe bring a friend and we can double date" This is when I started feeling the anger within me building to unprecedented levels which takes a lot. In the end, I just stopped replying until he got bored and gave up.

To all the men who save women's numbers long after you've disengaged from them that text a complete stranger out of the blue expecting a random hook-up to counter the effects of a rebound, I caution you not to be this guy. Truly uncouth and unwelcome.

I am going to use the new age expression, uncoupling. That means I lose email addresses, delete phone numbers...if it's someone from here.....unfriend.....if I were following her blog.....delete watching. When it's over it's over.

That said you handled a creepy situation very well....kudos.....

I had something similar happened this week and wrote a post about people from our past. Another blogger-friend had a stalker re-appear this week.
Must be something that has to do with alignment of planets this week...

Makes me think of all the movies where the rake goes through his extensive little black book trying to get a date and it sometimes works.
I think I would have told him he was sounding creepy so get lost.

If you see me in the real world, come say "Hi Justskin."

I always behave. Preferably not well.

I hear stories like this time and time again. And I really have a hard time understanding in what universe this kind of conduct makes any sense.

But, I suppose loneliness, desperation, and prolonged horniness could make anyone a bit crazy. And for some, that crazy looks like that.

And this is why I love my iphone6. I can block numbers of people like this. My dad's Galaxy doesn't have that capability. Bummer really.

I'm starting to get the feeling that Valentines Day is underscoring some of this behavior. My theory? Men don't want to be alone on this day so they are trying to hook-up so they aren't alone. I get it. But seriously, it's just another day people!

OMG - The situation was uncomfortable for sure and not good!!! Although he might have had a connection a year ago, the right thing would be a re-introduction, get acquainted again via which media you prefer, and see if both parties would like to meet. You handled it like a trooper for sure - well done!
