Headin' West
Headin' West What better place to stop on a road trip than Amarillo, TX? It was on the original route 66, of course, and I guess I'm following whatever is left of that edifice. It is the quintessential road for a road trip. In any event, Amarillo's cow town heritage shows and is even pushed upon visitors despite the fact there is some pretty heavy industry there. Perhaps it should be. It is, after all, the economic center of the Texas and Oklahoma panhandles, and they are still, even today, places with a lot of cattle. I think I'll have a steak, followed by some good bourbon. Today's drive started in the rain, and it kept up until I was out of Oklahoma. The further west one goes, the less green one sees, even in the spring. It is an open road though, uncluttered by big towns, but with a sprinkle of smaller ones. Took a late lunch at a non-franchise cafe. The menu was simple, and the food good. Tomorrow I'll head on west. Looks like Albuquerque to me.
