Memorial Day
Today is a day to remember those Military Members that gave their lives in service of our country (the United States of America). In my opinion, it is a day hugely important, and that all, especially our youth be cognizant of the extreme sacrifices that some made to give us our way of life. Yesterday I spent time at the local Veterans Cemetery assisting with preparations for today’s ceremonies of Remembrance. Today I will attend a parade and Ceremonies. I hope that if at all possible, you to take a moment of Remembrance.


Background:

Memorial Day in the United States is for remembering the people who died while serving in the country's armed forces. The holiday, which is observed every year on the last Monday of May, originated as Decoration Day after the American Civil War in 1868, when the Grand Army of the Republic, an organization of Union veterans established it as a time for the nation to decorate the graves of the war dead with flowers. By the 20th century, competing Union and Confederate holiday traditions, celebrated on different days, had merged, and Memorial Day eventually extended to honor all Americans who died while in the military service.

 I am very lucky that my family members can all be honored on Veterans Day. I feel deeply for those that can't.

I will be at a local historical village today which will have a Civil War encampment.
Opportunity may knock only once, but temptation bangs on the door forever!
