Occupational Quandary

How do you tell someone to "Shut the fuck up and go away"in such a way that you do not lose your job?

That had been my predicament this evening. Nice enough guy. Spent an hour standing next to the sign that says not to hang around the security desk and distract the officer on duty telling me inane, almost nonsensical stories. In between said stories, he was trying to get me to make an after hours call to a maintenance worker ( that may or may not have been the one on call this evening) because his toilet wouldnt flush. Seriously? It wasn't leaking or overflowing. NOT an emergency. Does not warrant the phone call at 3am. He would have to wait. And it wasnt like he had gone #2 either. But he tried to pressure me into it. Even tried to bribe me (poorly I might add) before finally leaving.

But 5 minutes later he was back. Only spent half an hour this time. I wasn't even looking at him. Only answered his questions with "I'm sorry. I have to get back to work." Guy wasn't getting the hint.

I wanted to tell him to shut up and stop distracting me from my work, but can't. Oh well. Gotta wrap this up. I just saw him getting on the elevator to make another trip here...

Not a plumber. In this building they have to ask me to put in a work order with the maintenance dept.

Then I believe it IS your job to make the call. Why are you pushing back?

Keep in mind, water damage can be extremely costly for your boss to repair. Flooring and structural damage can be caused by leaks or flooding. And having a faulty toilet is EXTREMELY inconvenient. It's something most people get resolved immediately.

There is no water damage. The handle broke. Not an emergency

 probably the same dude that stands in front of the yellow line on my bus and talks to the bus driver the whole way, even though there are signs saying not to do either!!
