Lies

You continuously hear that members do not like others tell lies in their profiles, messages and IM.

What I want to know is do you feel that all or just some of the members are not being truthful.

How do you check up on the others that you are interested in?

My opinion: Everyone lies. Whether here or elsewhere, everyone lies. Whether they are outright lies, or they are misrepresentations, or lies of omission, it is all the same. The only question is are the lies on subjects that are deal-breakers.

All that remains is how we respond to those lies.

Some lies aren't worth getting worked up over. Most people misrepresent their lives to appear better than it actually is. That is, in fact, somewhat expected. If you're claiming to be a doctor, yet you merely work in a hospital as a security guard, that's a bit too far of the mark to be forgivable.

However, the lofty idealism of "Be Honest" should never be used as an excuse to be invasive or demanding. People are entitled to their privacy. We should respect proper boundaries and accept that there are certain things we are simply not entitled to knowing.

Example: Lying about location. As long as they're reasonably close to what they list on their profile, I can respect that they don't want a measure of privacy. It is an outright lie, but an understandable one. I am not owed anyone's exact address.

Example: Lying about marital status. I absolutely have a right to know the truth about this. Lying about this is a deal breaker.

I think you are correct that nearly all profiles contain lies of some sort whether they are deal breakers or not depends on the person being lied to.

The difficult thing about lies is how do you correct them and tell the truth?

"I'll tell u the truth a couple of different ways before I'd lie to you!"

I think almost everybody "bends" the truth somewhat, but a lot just outright lie,
like old photos, their definition of "body type" and the like!

Good post!

You don't have to be without sin (you are completely truthful) to answer.
