My response to a hate filled rant in one of the chat rooms.

We all have beliefs we hold near and dear, I get that. What I can’t understand is what seems to be the all too common practice of belittling anyone who might see things differently. Does that make us better people? I think not. In my estimation strident opinions do not indicate quality of character. I measure the quality of one’s character by the very simple standard of how they treat their fellow human beings and specifically those with whom they disagree. Something to think about eh?

 You wrote this in 2015 and unfortunately, it has not changed. Some people were just not brought up to respect the opinions and life choices of other people...nor do they believe that some of our differences are beyond our control. And they have no qualms about belittling anyone who doesn't share their opinions. I would say it's like life...that there are bullies out there in the real world...but it seems to be a bit magnified here...I think because these people have a 'captive' audience, so to speak...and they can hide behind the computer screen, oblivious to the shock and anger showing on people's faces at their caustic words. And, as a matter of fact, that is the best way to make them go away...ignore them, do not react to them, carry on a normal conversation with the others in the room. Sometimes it's necessary to leave the room (I leave if I know I am about to lose control and fight back) but sometimes that feels like they are winning, so I try to just ignore them. Same with bully bloggers. Just don't read their shit.
