Research on Alpha Male's.

Since I did a blog on Alpha's and got a couple of good response's I have done some research I googled Alpha male's trait's. During my research I have found that a alpha male does have a lot of fascinating and impressive positive traits. That’s what makes him so desired and awed. But as with anything that has an extremely positive side, there’s also a negative and dark side.

Good Trait's:
#1 Strength. An alpha male is strong. If he doesn’t have brute strength, he has loads of mental strength to think under pressure.
#2 A leader. An alpha male is always a leader. He doesn’t try to be one, he instinctively takes the lead when the circumstances arrive his way.
#3 Will to win. He has the will to win, and will do anything it takes as long as he gets what he wants. He always tries to be the last man standing.
#4 Ambitious. He’s a dreamer and is full of ambitions. He doesn’t think small, and is full of ideas that other people haven’t begun to comprehend.
#5 Competitive. An alpha male is extremely competitive, and takes immense pleasure in winning over his rivals.
#6 Charismatic. He’s charismatic, but not necessarily charming. He inspires everyone around him and awes people through his dreams and ideas.
#7 Challenging. He doesn’t shy away from challenges. In fact, he always goes looking for challenges.
#8 Confident. An alpha male doesn’t mind silence in a conversation because he’s not nervous. He’s extremely confident and doesn’t need anyone else’s approval for anything.
#9 Rule breaker. He doesn’t follow rules and he paves his own path whenever he sees an opportunity. Almost always, he makes his own fortune using his own means.
#10 Inspiration. An alpha male inspires others, and almost all men he meets want to be more like him. He’s a role model, and all guys either hate him or envy him.
#11 Ingenuity. He’s smart, be it street smart or book smart.
#12 Optimistic. Optimism oozes out of every orifice of his. He’s extremely optimistic and is always convinced that what he’s doing is the right thing and the right way.
#13 Protective instinct. His protective instinct is always on. He’s alert and aware of what’s going on around him all the time.
#14 Calculative. An alpha male knows his plans. He knows what he’s doing, and approaches his goals with a reckless and yet, calculative mind.
#15 Egotism. His ego is unaffected by the opinion of others. He doesn’t care what other people think of him because he thinks he’s above mere mortals.
#16 He draws people. Every other guy and girl wants to be around him. He draws people with his ideas and his visions, or with his dreams.
#17 Risk taker. What others would call mad recklessness, he calls it his life. An alpha male loves taking risks, especially when he believes that it would work in his favor.
#18 Focus. An alpha male is very focused with his ideas. His determination pushes him through adversities.
#19 He creates his destiny. An alpha male writes his own fate. He doesn’t believe in fate and has a high internal locus of control. He believes that any events in his life are a result of his own actions.
#20 He’s dependable. An alpha male is a solution finder. He’s dependable and a workhorse, and won’t rest until he’s convinced he has what he needs.

Dark trait's:
#1 Arrogance. With a lot of confidence, unfortunately, comes arrogance. Alpha males are very arrogant, even if they don’t reveal this trait to the rest of the world.
#2 Intense rivalry. The will to win of an alpha male almost always turns into rivalry. Like in a death match, an alpha male takes all pitfalls and challenges personally, and that can cloud his better judgment.
#3 Perfectionist. An alpha male is a perfectionist and ends up demanding perfection from everyone around him. He can be very unforgiving when others around him don’t match up to his level of perfection.
#4 Bullheaded. He can be very stubborn when he truly believes in something, even if he’s completely wrong.
#5 Perseverance. He doesn’t know when to stop pursuing something because he’s so overly confident about his own abilities. He may achieve what he wants, but the journey may drain him.
#6 Ruthlessness. Anything that comes in the way of an alpha male’s pursuit, he tries to eliminate it.
#7 Recklessness. His desire to win may be so intense, that he may end up turning himself into a reckless madman who doesn’t weigh the odds before doing something.
#8 Dominating. Alpha males can be very dominating, to the point where others could fear him or get frustrated with his behavior.
#9 Apologies. An alpha male is unapologetic if he assumes he’s right.
#10 Pressure. He thrives under pressure and loves it. Even if it takes a toll on his health or the well being of others around him, he continues to live life on the edge.

With all due respect, we subscribe to the view that while there are certainly personality traits, and they can be categorized, the concept of the Alpha male does not really exist, except when its looked for.

For example when we are looking for Alpha males we are typically looking at successful males, and contrasting their personality traits against other, less successful men or subordinates. But what happens when one can not control their place in a group..ie a manager of a family owned company - whom might otherwise be an alpha male, but is subordinate to the top structure...so can they truly be considered alpha males? We borrow the term from the animal kingdom, and as all things when we contrast the human species with the animal kingdom, we fall short...the animal kingdom is without malice, without pity, strength and prowess are the sole characteristics of the male whom gets to breed. This is hardly how the human species conducts itself, otherwise men would simply have to pound their chest and women's panties would drop.

A chord seemingly common on both lists is selfishness, personal interests. Others only matter when their needs align with an Alpha male....not sure any of this is desirable and can see very little in the way this would make someone largely successful in any social group.

Many women have these traits too. It hints of misogyny that women can not lead, could not fulfill all these personality traits and if we accept they can, then there is no real concept of an alpha male - unless we subjugate, which goes to points above - if we look for it, we find it, by contrasting the "lesser".

Which makes the alpha male, personality, prowess or status....who would say Justin Beiber is an alpha male?...But he is by any characteristic above...why is he? Cuz he had initial talent, which got him money, fame, adoration, which instilled power and entitlement and are any of his actions less than expected from an Alpha male alone from immaturity of wielding that power...but take it all away, would he be the same person? How would his personality be shaped?

Nice blog.

A very interesting comment travelling. It is true that there is no such thing as the total Alpha, and that it is only a concept, which is made up of certain absolutes and comparatives. Surely Alphas must lack some of the traits listed, for if they didn't, there would only be ONE.
