Accepting Friend Requests

So if I send you a friend request and you accept then I'm assuming I can contact you and get a response. I mean that's the whole point of the friend request right - to be friends. So then why do I get all these rejections from people who accepted???

 Some members collect friends and they will accept a request just so they can increase their popularity count.

Others require some kind of interaction first before accepting a friend request.

And others will quite happily accept friend requests but have no intention of meeting or taking it any further than that.
