Crackerjack Driver's License??

I wonder sometimes how some people got a drivers license. I was going to the gas station the other day, driving in the right lane of two lanes of traffic. A car pulls up beside me and guns past and tries to squeeze in between me and the car ahead of me. There was not enough room so he backed off, and blows his horn at me. He attempts again; on the third attempt I backed off and let him in. He then pulls in to the gas station ahead of me. I pull in behind him and proceed to put gas in my car. I go in to pay for the gas and he comes in behind me. He asked why it took me so long to let him in the lane. I asked him if blowing the horn was some kind of code and I had missed that question on my drivers test. He looked at me a little stunned.

I asked if his car had a lever on the left side of his steering column. He seems to still be a little stunned, so I asked, "Do you know what it is called?" He is still staring at me so I continue with my explanation. "It is called a turn signal. If you flip the lever up, it turns on a light on the exterior of the car at both the front and rear of the car to indicate you are wishing to make a turn to the right. If you flip the lever down, it turns a light on the exterior of the car at both the front and the rear of the car to indicate you are wishing to turn to the left. Had you used it I may have known your desire to change lanes, blowing your horn tells me absolutely nothing.

A couple of the customers in the store are chuckling, and Mr. Hornblower is standing there in awe. I don't think he is use to being told what's what. I left and went to work, I hope he learns to use that lever on the steering column.

Anyone else have any crazy driving stories??

I'm originally from L.A., there when you use the 'lever on the left side of the steering column' people would speed up so you can't change lanes. After a while you learn not to use them and how to dart into a little space.

When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.

Good for you.

I live in a smallish town, and find it annoying that people weave between lanes from behind me; only to have me pull up beside them at the next stop light.

Check out my profile or and become a "watcher" of my blog FMAOPLS,to learn more about me, and for intelligent, lively, smartassy and fun discussion, with a little irreverence thrown in. "Like" or comment on my photos, and I promise I'll add more. Thanks.

I wouldn't mind all the changing lanes if they use a signal light... it is when they don't use it that drives me absolutely CRAZY!!!! Thanks for stopping by.

I think it is the same in most places. I find everyone is in such a rush that they forget common courtesy. Thanks for stopping by.

A while ago, in the UK, a woman contested a parking ticket for parking on a yellow line and the reason she gave was "I had my shopping lights flashing while I went in to the store"

The use of turn signals is a rare sight in this part of the "woods". I think they were options when folks bought cars so they got floor mats instead.
The ones that make me have potty mouth are the ones that signal they are turning left and are in the left lane, and then whip it right cross your bow and go right. I have a major rant about this on here several months back
The other trick around here is the ones who pass on the right!!!! talk about hazards

(Virtual Symposium Group) use Virtual Symposium Group

That would drive me to a potty mouth as well. There are all kinds of crazy drivers out there. My goal is to not be one of them.

living in fredericton has trained us to predict the unbelievable . A red light is merely a suggestion to slow down. and usually , red lights mean speed up. "Turn signal indicators are for people who drive a passat " is what I have been told. Smart drivers always wait for at least one car to run the red before proceeding through the intersection. It's non stop here. The city council is planning on putting video cams on the street lights in order to generate some revenue. It'll be in the millions of dollars if every fine is paid... now watch me get caught doing something horrible....LoL>.

I do not profess to be a perfect driver, I have occasionally had a lapse in memory and forgotten a signal light or two. I wonder if the traffic cameras would act as a deterrent. Maybe after a few hundred tickets are issued.
