Oops

I went to the store and I accidentally backed into someone's car while pulling out. To say the least , the lady was pissed. I gave her all my information. I guess she thought I was lying, so she called the police.

I didn't mind. It's raining today, so I enjoyed the rain on my face before the cops came. This random guy comes up and started flirting with me. Since I was stuck there, I started talking and laughing with him.

As we're waiting the lady started acting aggressive and angry, which was understandable. I was upset, as well, I just didn't show it. When the cops came, I excused myself from the guy to speak to the officers.

They were super nice and sweet. I let them know what happened as honestly as I could. I guess I wasn't acting in the way the lady would like cause she soon started flipping out and demanding I get arrested. I don't think she knew how the process worked.

After everything was done, I couldn't help but wonder if there was deeper issues with her. She was way older than me and didnt handle the situation well. Yeah, it sucked that we had an accident but everyone was ok and each car was still drivable.

So I guess my question is: How do you handle yourself when the shit hits the fan? Do you get angry or do you try to make do with the situation you're in?

Ive had to deal with a lot of serious stuff in the last. As attempted suicide by one of my kids, a business failing, a divorce just to name a few. Getting mad never helps, maybe for a moment or two, but not any longer. You just take care of the problems until there's a resolution. Staying mad doesn't help, it's just a waste of energy. What's the reagge song, "Don't Worry, Be Happy"?

if you go crazy.. the cops have to say that in court.. if it gets there..

Getting mad never helps, plus it seems to make situations worse. My heart goes out to you. It can't be easy to deal with your child in pain. I hurt my parents in that way when I was younger. Hopefully you got your child help and they pull through this.

Yes, she was white. But the officer was a huge sweetheart. He let her know I couldn't get arrested and informed her of the process.

Sounds like maybe she was there to meet someone from here and they didn't
show!
Accidents are just that.Accidents!Flipping out never accomplishes anything!

You handle it the exact way that you did. Police are not going to make a decision based on what someone wants, they will base it on the law. If anyone is likely to go to jail, it is the person who is out of control. Nice job.

Be safe, relax and just have fun!

Haven't experienced that yet, but I imagine it would be upsetting to get a no show.

I almost laughed when she started demanding that. But I didn't want to make the situation worse or not seem like I wasn't taking it seriously.

So far very calm and collected during an accident (car crashes)..some people are not though,,but angry about a fender bender? how fast can one drive when backing up? quite slow I think, can't destroy cars that way...ha ha. oops there was one time I was not calm ,,,the person tried to drive off,,that made me angry. also there was one guy that tried to run away,,I chased him for a city block before I caught him, I made him come back to the accident..his car was totaled.

You chased him on a block? Man, you were pretty determined to catch him. Hit and runs are frustrating.

That would really depend on the situation at hand.

Over all, usually cooler heads prevail.

I deal with pissed of people all the time. Yea, retail management can suck at times. I usually just keep a smile and try my best to explain the solution to the problem with a smile on my face and sometimes, but rarely, I have to ask them to calm down. And on RARE occasions, I have to ask them to leave since they are creating a disturbance. Good thing the police department is right next door. LOL

You handled yourself just fine. No matter what the race of the other person is, some people are just asses

People handle things so differently. Sometimes it can be the same thing but on a stressful day...you know! Then there are the assholes of the world that are angry over nothing, but would be totally pissed if you responded the same way.

At the end of the day like you said it was an accident and nobody was hurt! I think I would have felt that way if it was me.

For me I get bent out of shape when lives are in more peril!!!
Im like that, as well. If someone had gotten hurt, it would disturb me greatly.

Like you said, the lady had issues....

And since you took the responsibility,
and there were no penal code issues, the other lady
was just blowing steam
- the police usually reprimand citizens for calling them
in such straightforward situations

Cheers my lady - P

Yeah, given the way she reacted it's probably a good thing the cop showed up and took a report. After having been in a worse car wreck, I'm not so sure I would ever be in another one and not get law enforcement involved.

While the other driver was decent enough at the time of the wreck, a few months later she'd changed her story and was going for additional insurance payout claiming injuries that "weren't diagnosed & inadequately treated" by the original hospital visit.

So yeah, good job keeping your cool (losing control of your emotions rarely ever seems to actually help), and here's hoping this will be the last you have to deal with her.
