The meaning of words

It is interesting how people use one word when they really mean something different.

One example is 'play' instead of asking to cyber or talk dirty people ask if others want to play. To me playing means games of some sort.

Another one is 'fun' one person's definition of fun could and usually is different than another person's definition.

There is one phrase that gets used but an answer isn't really wanted and that phrase is 'how are you doing'. It is used more as a greeting but will get asked or used more than once and the conversation has a hard time getting past the greeting stage for some strange reason. I understand that some use it as an ice breaker question.

People need to get back to saying what they mean and mean what they say. People in society would understand each other better and be on the same page. It just amazes me!

Let's chat. I expect that we would both be direct.

he miss-use of words seems to be getting more noticeable. It is a generation thing with the younger ones changing the meaning. An example is the use of the word "gay". In my day it meant joyful, happy et now it means someone who prefers someone of their own sex.

People often use words like "play" because they think other words would be offensive.

This is usually a sign that they have a limited vocabulary, and just can't think of innoffensive ways of expressing themselves. I will often ask "What do you mean, when you suggest "play?", and leave it up to them to lay it out in a manner which is much clearer.

I do agree, that people should take more care in expressing themselves more clearly, especially in written communication. But this is an art form that is no longer considered essential in the education system, I'm afraid. Spelling and grammar are giving way, in the younger generation, to textspeak.

Now on a vanilla site I could understand being a bit obscure but like you I cannot understand why people here don't come out and say let's have sex.
Let's play makes me think of a rousing game of Monopoly, Parcheesi or even Cards.
And as you noted one persons fun may be another's misery.

If you see me in the real world, come say "Hi Justskin."

I always behave. Preferably not well.

words are only offensive to the offended it is their issue and spelling and grammar on a blog are irrelevant if you fuss about it more than likely you suck in several ways and none are in the good way
