what is love
what is love “Love, like truth and beauty, is concrete. Love is not fundamentally a sweet feeling; not, at heart, a matter of sentiment, attachment, or being ‘drawn toward.’ Love is active, effective, a matter of making reciprocal and mutually beneficial relations with one’s friends and enemies. We are not automatic lovers of self, others, world, or God. Love does not just happen. We are not love machines, puppets on the strings of a deity called ‘love.’ Love is a choice–not simply, or necessarily, a rational choice, but rather a willingness to be present to others without pretense or guile. Love is a conversion to humanity–a willingness to participate with others in the healing of a broken world and broken lives. Love is the choice to experience life as a member of the human family, a partner in the dance of life, rather than as an alien in the world or as a deity above the world, aloof and apart from human flesh.” ‒Carter Heyward, in Our Passion for Justice hhmmm this made me feel a massive amount of humility towards all people |

Maybe we are halves destined to meet as we travel our life paths My heart is always open for you to see sweet Angel... as i stare at it.

In one story in the Symposium the person believed that prior to birth we were two halves together and that we are split upon birth and our purpose in life is to find the other half which will be our true love... hhhmm..sounds interesting, kind of "soul-mates".The heart knows,it beats for the other half, yearning to become one and whole again..never to be separatedm but to be together as always- sharing the passion of love and life.It knows no death.. an believed so..

Love, I remember discussing love with three firends in the pub one night back in my early 20's. One friend was studying philosophy, while me and the other guy were reading Plato's Symposium of Love. We had a most wonderful discussion about what is love, what is desire, how desire and love interact. Yes, you are right. Children express the purest form of love...nothing breaks my heart more than to see a child with a broken heart...

irony is a very apt word to describe how the world is...accepting the world as ironic also gives us the taste of the opposite - a world in balance, all things congruent, at one...

i agree with the kind of resilience it has to undergo and develop that it can over time it resist anything that will make it wane..no matter what and how many walls are there--must carry on... i can't help but shed a tear whenever this kind of topic arises...life is ironic.

to feel love as you say is truly the aim of all people, though so many things deflect our attempts ot communicate this kind of love. When two people meet and love beholds them, then everything can be deflected for a time, but slowly things change and their love must develop new resilience, new avenues for communication if love is to carry on...

Love is concrete..i agree. something we can really touch and feel with our bare hands-- but often times the ability to experience it is being corrupted. Love is a choice, a willingness to be present to others without pretense or guile...a conversion to humanity-rather than as an alien or a deity aloof and apart from human flesh.. ...a realm encompassing the true beauty of this world of men.
