AFF/Passion is a fraud.

If you are a Gold member reading this, take note of what I about to write and spread the word. Anyone wishing to contact can do so via Ushawu or the Book of Face.

I have confirmed (reply from technical support follows) only Gold members can read and reply to messages, even if the message was sent from a Gold member. This is not what was written in the membership description when I joined and I suspect it wasn't when you got your membership either.

Furthermore, I have just received a message from someone I have been talking with for weeks I know outside of this site which starts with "I see you are a new member here". I contacted her and confirmed she did not send message.

Combine with all the fake accounts and I forced to conclude this site is now primarily fraudulent. Subsequently, I have cancelled my membership.

Oh, yes, I forgot about that. Every time I wrote to someone who had "viewed my profile" they told me they hadn't. I assumed it was from that quickview window that opens whenever your mouse crosses over someone, not actual fraud, but now that I've received a message from someone that confirmed they didn't send it I'm thinking otherwise.

Not that ancient -- I was having conversations with Standard members up until a few days ago and I've confirmed in both the emailed receipt and the charges to my credit card that I had not paid for the "Standard Contact" option.

 the site is full of messages and views from those that are not, even puts you on IM when you are not.. It is what it is, and it is getting different each day.. I have paid gold for years, and with the last round of modifications, it is not worth my while to continue.. So I got till Dec paid then , I turn into Santa...

 I hear what you're saying but you're wrong. Standard members have never been able to reply unless you as a gold member pays for it or they pay a one time fee per profile access.
The person who you got the message from is probably either an ambassador or part of the ice breaker program. Automatic messages get sent to new members by the site from you if you join.
I have been on for several years and have met a few guys from here. So yes some are fake but this site is not a fraud.

I've had several conversations "this round" on Local Adult Companion/Passion with standard members, so this is either something relatively new or they accidentally gave me free "Standard Member Can Contact" with my regular Gold membership that ran out.

I presume these new problems with fake views and fake "on IM now" and fake messages started when Local Adult Companion became Passion, because more than a decade ago when it was just Local Adult Companion I never encountered any of these problems. Almost everyone I contacted back then was real.

I checked that my credit card was only charged for the Gold membership, yet I've been having conversations with at least a dozen Standard members until a few days ago, half of which continued outside Local Adult Companion, so with respect, I'm not wrong. Also, I've met real people from this site as well, so I appreciate that there are actual people here; but fake views, getting a message from someone I know IRL that didn't send it, and now this bait-and-switch -- that's fraud.

 It sucks, but very few dating/social sites allow non-paying members to communicate in any way. Here, though limited for non-paying members, there are blogs, chat rooms, IM, magazine articles to comment about, and cams etc. So you get a lot for what you aren’t paying for.

 You should remember that this is not a free service but a business venture. For them it is all about the money, . .however they do engage in fraudulent practices to lead people to believe that there is more going on here than there really is, sorry that you were surprised by that.

Adding to that the general background of people ready to use the anonymity of the internet to do shady things and yes you have to be careful and somewhat cynical.

However, I do hear that some people have been successful and do actually meet people. For me it has been a long time but there are women who I am sure could meet 30 guys a month if they chose, well at least supposed to be able to, I guess they guys who have that opportunity can be a fickle lot.

I don't intend to renew, and didn't the last time but I guess I had auto renew on when I didn't intend to.

Honestly this site is from my prospective no worse or better than any other,

I first joined Local Adult Companion in 2004 and never encountered any of the fraudulent activity (other than the odd fake profile) that seems rampant now. My previous experiences with Local Adult Companion throughout the years were quite positive, and I would have recommended Local Adult Companion to anyone. This time, however, the fake profiles and fake views far outnumber any real contacts I've made, and now with the bait-and-switch about Standard members not being able to reply (I had over a dozen conversations with Standard members until only a few days ago when my membership was due to renew) and to top it off a fake message from someone I actually know ...well, what can I say other than it's a real shame the site has deteriorated to what it has become now.

 I understand limiting standard members, But Local Adult Companion lies about, then sets you up with fakes so your chances to communicate are slim. Women have a better chance here than men.

 They change the "features" so often on this site that they should offer anyone who has upgraded a refund** if they feel the new site no longer offers them what they have paid for.

When you sign a new mobile phone contract or some kind of paid subscription (TV, broadband, etc), they offer you a refund if their terms and conditions change by a significant amount.

But here they don't even publish what changes they are making. They introduce them and that's when we find out about the new "feature" and we have to like it or lump it.

** refund for five months paid for subscription but not actually used, for example.
