 Can also be the person isn't at their device. Another reason is talking with someone else. Some will open and can see your age and sex. Assuming you want a female the female you send one to doesn't want a male or your age. It doesn't mean rude if do not answer assuming not busy, the im is working. If I answer it is usually never a answer the person doesn't like. Before a recent profile rewrite I had my preferences. Also not meeting at this time which is still there. Couples ignore the no couples so why should I answer them? Same for the men who don't meet my preferences. Oh plus not meeting is ignored.

If only animals had the ability to know when to keep away from us humans they would be better off.

 Off does not remove them from IM when they log off. They keep them on for some time to make it look like more people are on IM. My partner has many times been offline for some time and she is still shown by Local Adult Companion as being online and on IM
