Being in a Funk… getting out of the rut

It is easy to get in to a rut with life sometimes. We get in to a routine and before we know it, the routine becomes so, well routine, we don't know what else to do. By this time we feel stuck. So what do we do?

I have been there a few times. In a way I am there now, although, I realize it and am working on other things to get out of it.

My life this past winter has been work, chat, blogs, bed. Get up the next day and do it all over again. So I mixed it up a little and added the gym. I was doing great, then got sick. I was off work for almost two weeks with what started as a head cold which turned in to sinus and throat infection, which turned in to laryngitis and then lung infection.

My work is using my voice a LOT, so having laryngitis was not a good thing. And since I work such whacked hours, it is hard to visit with friends and family. Hell, I have a hard time to get shopping done.

So tonight I am in the chat room chatting with my chat buddies and someone mentions about being in a funk. Someone else mentions about being in one last summer. The first chatter asks how to get out of it. Second chatter says "realizing what it was and Irish stubbornness" I commented "realizing what you can and can't change".

I am the type of person who very rarely gets bored with life, I try to find the good in the things around me. Even if those things are the same things day in and day out. I try to keep things interesting. Although sometimes that is hard to do, especially if you find yourself in a rut. Sometimes you feel like you are just spinning your wheels and not getting anywhere. Realizing what it is, is a big step towards changing it. Finding something to do that is different is sometimes not so easy.

I started reading a fellow chatters blog last fall and he directed me to a few others. I have enjoyed reading them and commenting where I feel comfortable and when I think I may have something to contribute to the topic.

I also started writing again over the winter. Something I thank my fellow chatter and friend, cwazywabbit for. Writing is something I had done for years and got away from, this past winter I got back to doing it almost daily again. I find it helps me when I get in those "ruts" and allows me to see things from a different perspective. Something about putting thoughts in print. Gets it out of the head and on the page, being able to see it and not just think it.

So my question is what do you do when you find yourself in a "rut"? How do you get out of it?
